Mingachevir – The Energy Capital of Azerbaijan
Location
Mingachevir is located in the northwestern part of Azerbaijan, on the banks of the Kura River.
It lies about 300 km from Baku.
The city holds great importance both economically and as a tourism destination.
History
The history of Mingachevir dates back to ancient times — archaeological discoveries show settlements from the 3rd–2nd centuries BC.
Modern Mingachevir was founded in 1948, following the construction of the Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station (HPP).

Nature
The city’s main natural treasure is the Kura River and the Mingachevir Reservoir, which was built on it.
