Azerbaijan National Cuisine

Azerbaijani national cuisine is famous for its richness, variety, and unique flavors. Azerbaijani dishes are mainly prepared with meat, rice, vegetables, herbs, and various spices. Both hot dishes and traditional desserts hold a special place in the national cuisine. Each region of Azerbaijan has its own distinctive dishes.

Azerbaijani national dishes and their ingredients:

  1. Pilaf
    Ingredients: rice, lamb or chicken, butter, saffron, chestnuts, raisins, dried apricots, onions.

  2. Dolma
    Ingredients: grape leaves, minced meat (beef or lamb), rice, onions, herbs (coriander, dill, mint), salt, black pepper.

  3. Dushbara
    Ingredients: flour, water, eggs, minced meat, onions, meat broth, vinegar, garlic.

  4. Kebab
    Ingredients: lamb or beef, onions, salt, black pepper, lavash bread.

  5. Qutab
    Ingredients: flour, water, salt, meat or herbs (spinach, coriander, dill), pomegranate seeds.

  6. Piti
    Ingredients: lamb, chickpeas, potatoes, onions, chestnuts, saffron.

 7. Bozbash
Ingredients: lamb, chickpeas, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, various spices.

 8. Lavangi
Ingredients: chicken or fish, walnuts, onions, plum paste, salt, black pepper.

 9. Kufta Bozbash
Ingredients: minced meat, rice, chickpeas, potatoes, dried plums, onions.

10. Pakhlava
Ingredients: flour, eggs, walnuts, sugar, honey, butter, cardamom.

11. Shekerbura
Ingredients: flour, butter, milk, walnuts or almonds, sugar, cardamom. 

12. Badambura
Ingredients: flour, almonds, powdered sugar, butter, cardamom.

Azerbaijani national cuisine has an ancient history and is an inseparable part of the country’s hospitality traditions. These dishes hold a special place both in everyday life and on festive tables.
