Location
Goygol District is located in the western part of Azerbaijan, at the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains.
It lies about 360 km from Baku.

History:
Goygol District was established in 1930 and was historically known as Khanlar.
The town of Helenendorf (now Goygol city) was founded in the 19th century by German settlers invited to the region by the Russian Empire.
Because of this, Goygol is widely recognized as the center of German heritage in Azerbaijan.
Nature
The main natural treasure of the district is the Goygol Lake, located at an altitude of 1,556 meters at the foot of the Murovdag Range.
